As I sit down to write this article, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that brought me from being a single mom struggling to make ends meet to the CEO of Outsourcing Angel, a company that has changed countless lives. It’s a journey filled with challenges, learning experiences, and a deep sense of purpose.
Becoming a Single Mom and Starting a Business
At the age of 20, I found myself facing the daunting task of being a single mom. Balancing a full-time job, taking care of my child, and navigating the challenges of daily life was incredibly tough. I had to drop my son off early at school and pick him up late after school, leaving us with very little quality time together. It was during this time that I realized I needed a change in my life.
I decided to start my own business, but here’s the catch: I had no idea what kind of business to start. The concept of outsourcing was foreign to me, and I had zero knowledge about running a business. My first venture was an e-commerce nail polish business. I thought to myself, “How hard could it be? If a million girls buy one bottle of nail polish each, I’d be a millionaire!” Little did I know that the world of business was much more complex than that.
The Learning Curve
Running a business turned out to be an eye-opening experience. I had to immerse myself in marketing, website development, SEO, and other unfamiliar terms and concepts. It was a steep learning curve, but I was determined to make it work.
One pivotal moment in my journey was the discovery of outsourcing. With limited funds and a need to get things done quickly and cost-effectively, I stumbled upon Upwork (formerly known as oDesk). This platform allowed me to hire talented individuals from overseas to handle various tasks for my business. It was a game-changer.
Pivoting Towards a Greater Purpose
Despite my initial excitement about the nail polish business, I realized that I lacked the passion for it. It wasn’t what I had envisioned. This realization led me to explore new horizons and connect with other business owners who needed assistance with tasks like website development and SEO.
I began helping them by hiring and managing outsourced workers. It was during this phase that I started to see the potential for a new business model. Instead of being the middleman, I envisioned a system where clients could work directly with outsourced workers. This was the beginning of what would become Outsourcing Angel.
Changing Lives Through Outsourcing
What started as a personal journey soon evolved into a mission to make a positive impact. When I travelled to the Philippines and witnessed the challenges faced by people in remote areas, I knew I had to do more. The infrastructure there was far from ideal, with long commutes to work being the norm. However, I also saw incredible potential in the talented individuals eager to work.
This realization fueled my desire to create jobs and opportunities for people in developing countries like the Philippines. It was not just about profit anymore; it was about making a difference in their lives. Providing employment to these individuals meant they could support not only themselves but also their families.
Expanding the Vision
As Outsourcing Angel continued to grow, I realized that the model had the potential to help people from all walks of life, not just those in developing countries. The desire for freedom, flexibility, and the ability to work from home was universal. I started hiring individuals within my own business who shared these values, and they became an integral part of our journey.
Our services expanded beyond outsourcing to include areas like marketing VA’s and video marketing. The possibilities were endless, and the impact we could make on individuals and businesses worldwide was truly inspiring.
A Message of Empowerment
My journey from single mom to CEO has taught me a valuable lesson: life is too short to settle for anything less than what you love. Whether it’s starting your own business or finding a job that allows you to work from anywhere, there’s a path for everyone. The key is to pursue your passion and embrace the freedom and flexibility that come with it.
As I look to the future, I am excited about the potential to help even more people and communities through the outsourcing model. Our mission is to empower individuals to live the lives they deserve while also making a difference in the world.
